Change is here!

I mentioned a few days ago that some change was coming.  And here it is!

I decided to move the website to a different hosting site, and with that move came some other changes as well: layout, content, and the site’s name.  Although I was very happy with the name “Silas Makes”, I wanted to include Sydney as well.  The new site is “My Kids Make“.  Browse around, linger, click away……  (there’s a new post waiting for you already).

From now on I will NOT be posting on this site, “Silas Makes”.  All new posts will be at mykidsmake.com. (Please note that if you are a subscriber you will have to subscribe to the new site)

A very easy lunch

Here is a fast and easy lunch we made today.

Making your own peanut butter is great for a lot of reasons:  it is simple, you can control the ingredients that go into it, you save  money, AND the kids love watching all the peanuts turn into peanut butter! Its a win win for everyone.

RECIPE

  • 2 C Unsalted Peanuts (we use organic)
  • 1/2t Salt (optional)
  • 1/2 – 1 T Olive Oil (optional)

Pour the peanuts in your food processor and  turn it on. Add salt and oil as desired.  The peanut butter will be stored in the fridge which makes it thicken up a bit, so I like to add a little oil to make it creamy.  Mix for a few minutes and the peanuts will turn into peanut butter before your eyes!

Make sure you store your homemade peanut butter in the fridge!

We are  having a vegetable garden this summer.   Silas, Sydney and I got out our gloves and little shovels and planted our seeds in little peat pots indoors.  Here’s an early picture of some of our little plants growing, growing, growing.

One of the plants we are growing is string beans.  Not only has it grown VERY large since the photo above was taken, but it moves fairly quickly. Yes, you read that correctly. It moves. We wanted to capture this so people could see.  Here’s a time lapse of the string bean plant turning toward the light from the window.  (In real time this was less than an hour.) Watch the tallest plant!

Just wanted everyone to know that I am working on the website and plan to make some updates in the days ahead. Keep checking back to see whats new. Thanks for all the comments – we love to read them!

Silas always says that he loves eating ice cream on a cold wintery day because……. it wont melt!!!  So, we tried our hand at making our own ice cream.

See the comments for additional info on how we made it.
